How To Dress (Properly) For the London Club Scene

Every time I go out, I have a glamorous image in my head of myself in a head-turning cocktail dress, brilliant statement necklace, and a sexy pair of pointed-toe pumps tearing it up on the dance floor. But then I think about the walk over the club...and the hours I will spend on my feet...and the cold, biting weather outside...and I just want to put on a pair of jeans and flats. Damn this stylish city and the hordes of well-dressed fashionistas who make you want to dress up! I think, though, that I have found a decent compromise:
London Club
A pair of leather leggings that will keep you warm AND have a subtle sexiness to them + heeled boots that will be easier on your feet (and again, keep you warm). A stylish peplum top that is easy, comfortable, and also still sexy. Dress it up with some statement jewels and red lips, and don't forget a fabulous fur coat (to be checked at various clubs and not just slung over a bar stool, of course) to keep up with the London glamour. Finally, a convenient cross-body is a MUST- as much as I love a great oversized clutch, holding it ALL night on the dance floor is exhausting.

On a Dreary London Day

The snow may be gone, but the rain is just arriving! Continuing my pattern of wearing weather-inappropriate clothing, I thought tights, a fur scarf, and suede booties were a great idea for the rain. Maybe next time I'l get it right...

Oscar Predictions: Amanda Seyfriend in Giambattista Valli Couture

Though she is not THE actress that everyone will be looking for on the red carpet at the Academy Awards, I'm always interested in Amanda Seyfried's red carpet choices. Usually light and feminine, she hardly makes a misstep while still managing to look young and fashion-forward.
For the Oscar's, I would love to see Amanda push it just a little with this Giambattista Valli Spring 2013 Couture ensemble. What is on the surface a cute, pink dress is, when you look more closely, an edgy pair of pants (!). Young and fun, Amanda could pull off this look flawlessly and make a serious statement (without looking like a crazy person). Adding a little edge to her red carpet ensembles, this subtle dress-over-pants look would retain that youthful femininity that Amanda always embraces.

Portobello Road + New Items

Yesterday, I took a trip down Portobello Road in London's famous Notting Hill. Yes, the Notting Hill from THAT movie with Hugh Grant (which, admittedly, I have not seen, but promised my friend I will before we go back!) Check out my new sunnies and other items!

Oscar Predictions: Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway is a red carpet star whose fashion choices are never overlooked. Fresh off of winning at the Golden Globes for her performance in Les Mis, NOW is her moment.

Oscar 2013 Predictions: Jennifer Lawrence

For the Golden Globes, it was no surprise when Jennifer Lawrence picked that beautiful, red-hot gown from Raf Simons for Dior. As the new face of Miss Dior, I have a feeling she'll be looking to the brand again for the Oscars. But, how does she top her last look? Two words: Dior Couture.

Couture season kicked off a few days ago, giving us fashion-conscious folks a preview of the Oscar's red carpet. New Creative Director Raf Simons, whose short time at Dior has already been hailed as a success, showed a range of Oscar-worthy gowns that JLaw could easily rock. Check out my prediction:

Though a softer look than her Golden Globes choice, this dress screams "fashion darling" and "Oscar-worthy" through its princess-y silhouette. A less controversial choice than some of the other Dior couture offerings, this deceptively simple dress would emphasize JLaw's best features and let her shine.

Currently Craving

Since I've been in bed with the flu for the last day and a half, I've had plenty of time to online shop. Due to my recent observations on London street style, I have of course been craving the local trends. An oversized coat, some light wash ripped jeans, and a great cary-all for class would be the perfect compliments to my wardrobe. Now if only I could get out of bed and go shop...oh wait, that's what the internet is for!

At The Height of Impracticality

Is me romping around in the snow in not nearly enough clothing. Basically, I would not recommend this to anyone. But, it was pretty cool to see it snow in London! Next time, I'll make sure to wear snow boots and a coat.

London Street Style...In a Nutshell

When most people think of London style, they think of the tailored trenches and classic plaids of Burberry, the ladylike ensembles of tea rooms, and the sophisticated and classic style of the beloved royals. However, like any great city, London has a thriving youth culture that looks to stores like Topshop, H&M, and Zara for sartorial inspiration. Out of that has sprung a distinct street style filled with the SKINNIEST of skinny jeans, oversized coats, chunky scarves, and chic booties or wedge sneakers. Sorry New York, you've got nothing on London.

Spots and Stripes

Trying to readjust to class at 10 am and still trying to adjust to the barely 4 hours of sunlight that I see during the day. Ignore the bags under my eyes and try to focus on my mix of leopard and stripe prints, creams, and tans that serve as camouflage in this urban jungle.

On Sunday, I finally turned 21. In the states, that means I can legally consume alcohol and gamble! Here in London, it means I can do exactly what I was already doing and nothing more. To celebrate, my family took me to the Landmark Hotel for some lovely afternoon tea- check out the mouth-watering food below. I decided it would be best to leave out pictures from the previous night's festivities... I mean, my parents do read this.
