Fashion Week Favorite: Carven Spring 2013

One of my favorite brands right now is Carven, and their Spring/Summer 2013 show only further convinced me of this obsession. Making schoolgirl-chic edgy and cool, Carven showcases classic items with bold silhouettes and modern colors and patterns. I could see Alexa Chung, Elle Fanning, and Kristen Dunst (and myself) rocking some of the looks below. Check out Fashionologie for the whole show!

What to Wear: The Big Game

You may remember that recently I posted about what to wear for different college activities. Well, it has inspired me to further analyze my academic wardrobe, so stay tuned for more college-related outfit spreads! This weekend, I'm so excited because I'm going to a St. Louis Cardinals game. Though I have yet to go to a game at my school this semester (which I wouldn't encourage), I think I have put together the perfect game-day outfit. It's comfortable, it's cool, it's trendy, and it still retains a semblance of femininity without you being as out of place as Elle Woods at Harvard.

Un Grand Rêve

For those of us who aren't among the lucky few attending Paris Fashion Week, all we can do is dream about it. What shows we would attend, what celebrities we'd see, and most importantly, what we would wear. Now, let's play a little game of pretend. I'm going to Paris Fashion Week. I'm seeing my favorite shows. I'm going to be seen by my favorite fashion icons. And I have all the money in the world to shop. This is what I would be wearing:

BAUBLE BAR

I've posted a lot lately about finding the perfect fall items and outfits, but its important to not overlook the details. Like jewelry! I really love Bauble Bar because they offer cool, trendy jewelry that is totally affordable! Think of less expensive House of Harlow and Dannijo-inspired pieces. Plus, even Nina Garcia endorses them- check out her favorite pieces! Here are some of my favorites that would finish off your perfect fall look!

Nostalgic

This outfit invokes in me a sort of nostalgia that one reads about in great American novels. These novels usually idealize a pre-industrialized America, when one could appreciate the vastness of nature. For me, this outfit produces a nostalgia for a time before, what I like to call, precision dressing. The clean lines, neutral colors, and simplicity of this look make it seem like it could have stepped off the Ralph Lauren or Tommy Hilfiger Spring 2013 runways and into such an era. When one could throw on easy, classic pieces and look chic. No over-thinking. No over-accessorizing. No resorting to leggings and a tank top because they are "comfortable" and "easy." Truthfully, I don't think I've ever lived in such a time.

Get the "IT" Item For Less!

You know the ones I'm talking about. The clothes that you saw over and over again on street style blogs during NYFW, on every magazine's "must-have" list for fall, and all over your pinterest boards. You've been drooling over them ever since those fall 2012 collections hit the runway. Now, I'm going to show you how to get them for less.

Instead of...
1. The Isabel Marant Cropped Statement Jacket, $1,300 and $3,680

Try this Vanessa Bruno jacket, at a much more manageable $140.

2. Instead of this ultra-luxe Alexander McQueen peplum leather pencil skirt for $3,000, try this super affordable option that's only $18!

3. Though these Versus red leather pants were on just about every French editor, the $1,500 price tag makes it a much less viable option than these $200 Rich & Skinny patent leather skinnies.

4. These Givenchy fold-over boots are one of the biggest must-haves of the season, but at $2,000, you would have to be Kim K to afford them. These equally cool Zara options are a cool $170.

5. The Stella McCartney flare skirt for $1,000 is certainly a beautiful piece, but this ASOS option for $60 is almost too good to pass up!

6.  These bizarre cowboy-esque boots by Isabel Marant are for some reason a highly coveted item, even at their $1,100 sticker price! I personally prefer the look of these $190 Zara boots.

7. This simple 3.1 Phillip Lim dress ($650) was a perfect pick for those editors transitioning from work to shows and back to work again.
For those of us who aren't editors, though, these 10 Crosby by Derek Lam ($395) and Paul and Joe Sister ($158) dresses may fit our budgets and lifestyles better.

8. Though the 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli satchel was worn to death by every blogger at NYFW, we shouldn't ignore the popularity of its sister "31 Hour" bag ($1,450). This similar one from Zara would make a great fall caryall for a 10th of the price ($150)!

What to Wear: College Edition

Now that both school and fall are in full swing, its time to start taking this year seriously. Be it group meetings, going to class, or just partying, you can no longer fall back on your standard summer wear. Take your style to the next level with these styling tips for school:

For a group meeting: look professional, but casual...

To class: Be comfortable, but still put together...

To a party: find that perfect balance of sexy and classy (and don't wear anything that is irreplaceable)

Clueless

Who couldn't look at a mini skirt and boots without thinking of Cher Horowitz of Clueless fame? Her preppy-schoolgirl-luxe style is the perfect inspiration for fall.
