If I Could Dress The Queen...

While in London, I had ample opportunity to admire the unique and chic UK style: a little bit country, a little bit rock and roll, and a little bit royal. As Will and Kate mania continues in the states, you can only imagine how the proud Londoners admire their resident royals. Thus, I began to think about royal style- the way women like Kate and Diana have proved that classic doesn't mean boring OR backwards.

So, in honor of my trip to London, this is how I would style the royals if I could...

Let's start with Kate:
Kate Middleton 1

For a casual outfit, I'd love to see Kate in a sleek pair of pants...especially in a color that she rarely wears. Add a little McQueen lace peplum to give the look a regal feel, and then a simple McQueen blazer, Mulberry bag, Stella McCartney heels and sunglasses, and Links of London jewelry for a trendy but classic look.

For a more formal look, I'd love to see Kate in something cool (like that amazing Jenny Packham turquoise dress she's wearing in the photo above) but still befitting of her royal status. I chose this Matthew Williamson cocktail dress because, well, could anything be cooler? The simple gold Jimmy Choo sandals, punchy red Jimmy Choo clutch, red Burberry lipstick, and Philip Treacy hat take the look from classy party-goer to thorough-bread Princess.

Next, Queen Elizabeth II herself...

The Queen

The Queen is definitely not afraid of color, but I'd love to see her in a subtle floral print. Who said you can't be classic, age-appropriate, and still cool? The Paul Smith dress is able to do just that, while the Stella McCartney coat, Nicholas Kirkwood for Erdem shoes, Burberry bag, and Philip Treacy fascinator all scream "Long Live the Queen!"

For a lighter, more fun look for Her Majesty, I'd love to see The Queen in separates, like this lace skirt and Ted Baker floral jacket. Add a bit of fur and a wonderful purple Philip Treacy hat to elevate this look from Princess to Queen.
