First Week of Classes

These last few days have been crazy! On Friday, I flew to St. Louis, Missouri and Saturday I moved into my dorm at Washington University in St. Louis. I am now a Sophmore and wondering where the last year went, but feeling more ready to start the school year. I have been so busy getting settled- buying books, school supplies, and items for my 6-girl suite- that I have just been wearing shorts and tank tops to beat this ridiculous heat. However, today I managed to put an outfit together (despite the 100 degree heat)!

And this is a picture from dinner the other night...

Free Shoes! Thank you to Voguely Van!

I won a giveaway! Even though I enter plenty of giveaways, I never have any expectations of winning since I rarely win things. However, I won an awesome pair of Jellybean heels from Dina Vanessa Mercado of Voguely Van! These Jeffrey Campbell look-alikes make me finally feel like a real blogger! Thank you- I love them!

Rachel Zoe + Neiman Marcus Event

Today, I went to an amazing event in at Neiman Marcus in which Rachel Zoe presented her Fall collection.  Set up as a runway show, Zoe explained each piece's inspiration, functions, and styling options as presented on each model. Her collection is really a reflection of not only Zoe's personal style, but the many years she has spent fitting high-end designers on every body type. The materials are luxurious, the tailoring is perfect, and the prices are reasonable (when compared to other similar designer collections).

Has Street Style Become Too Self Aware?

Via The Cut, I discovered a small tidbit from GQ's Will Welch about how the transformation of street style resembles that of reality television. According to Welch, what was once supposed to express snippets of everyday life- be it the way a regular person styles their skinnies or what they wear when they run to the grocery store- street style has become just another overly-hyped and trendy means of attaining one's 15 minutes of fame. Claiming street style has suffered from "its own popularity," Welch and The Cut purport that fashion is now onto the next big thing.

As a blogger, I look to street style for inspiration on how to dress fashionably and yet realistically. Since street style is supposed to be about us, the stylishly inclined bloggers and average citizens, I would love to here from you. What is your take on the evolution of street style?

Update Your Back-To-School Staples

While I always try to keep my style choices fresh, 5 days of classes each week can often send me into a style rut. To change things up, I'm looking into taking my classroom staples to the next level with just a few steps:

1. A bright pair of pants/jeans. Instead of reverting to black or blue skinnies, invest in a great pair of brightly colored jeans to add a little sunshine to your wardrobe.

2. The comfy flats are a necessity for walking around campus all day. While a pair of black or nude flats is always a go-to, a cool studded pair will easily give you a little edge.

3. The button down top is perfect for looking scholarly and polished- try a cool sheer black sleeveless one to change it up.

4. I live in my blazers when it gets chilly. A black blazer goes with everything, but a nude blazer (that also goes with everything) instantly adds more interest to a look.

5. A black pullover is the ideal layering piece when it gets cold, but this season is all about short, chunky knit. Add it over a button down top and your outfit becomes worthy of the Man Repeller herself.

6. A large tote is always key for carrying around books, but this Fall, the structured satchel is the new "it" bag, like the Proenza Schouler PS1

The New Look:

Craft

For dinner the other night, I went to Craft Restaurant in Los Angeles. Owned by Tom Colicchio (one of the judges on Top Chef) the dining experience was one to remember. The food and service were excellent, and so was the people-watching! Everyone at this restaurant was dressed impeccably- I saw more Birkin bags than on Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

Get the "IT" Look For Less!

If you are anything like me, you stalk the latest designer looks hoping you had the cash to buy every piece. While I may save up for one or two, there are always so many I want! So to save us the dilemma of choosing only one, I compiled some of the trendiest designer looks and the similar pieces you can get for a lot less! Enjoy!

These incredible Jimmy Choo over-the-knee boots retail for around $1,400!

However, you can get the look with these Michael Kors boots for $110 or luxe Stuart Weitzman boots for $400.

These awesome leather leggings by The Row retails for the price of a small Chanel. However, you can get these great leather leggings from Style Stalker for a tenth of the price!

These drool-worthy Brian Atwood pumps are $1400, like the Jimmy Choo boots. But these Steve Madden look-alikes are 10x less!

This beautiful D&G shift is $565!

To get a leopard dress for less, this Jones New York dress is an elegant take for $128, while this Alice & Olivia version is a little more fun and flirty for $200.

This fabulous $800 Alexander Wang bag is all over the blogosphere right now, but this BCBGeneration provides a much cheaper alternative for $35!

This really hot $1000 star-print D&G has been seen on the most stylish celebs, but this cute Asos version is made for us fashionistas without the same budget.

I would die for these $600 Miu Mius- especially in a great color like this red! These cool purple Steve Maddens provide another punchy color in a luxe suede for only $90.

This ultra-luxurious Vince fur vest is so hot this fall, but wearing an animal costs big bucks ($1,800!)

Get this fabulous Rachel Zoe faux fur alternative for $225, or this faux fur BB Dakota for $90!
